Procedure
  • During this lesson we learnt about the different types of eye shapes and how to make them stand out or minimize the appearance using dark and light shades on the eyes.
  • Looking at my models eyes, she had pretty much even eyes. As the chart says to shape even eyes, we need to shade the outer edge of the socket line and lift slightly.
  • In order to do this I used two colors a gold shade as the lighter color and a brown/bronze shade as the darker color.
  • I started by carrying out the consultation to make sure my model does not have any contra-indications.
  • After cleansing, toning and moisturizing the face, I applied the base and concealed any places that needed to be concealed.
  • I then set all this in place using loose powder.
  • I then primed the lids and applied the lighter gold color in the inner corners of the eyes.
  • I applied the same color on both eyes just to make sure the shape and color on both eyes is equal.
  • I then applied the darker color on the outer edge of the socket line to bring out the shape of the eyes and slightly took the color into the crease of the eyes blending it all out so it has a smooth finish to it.
  • After this I filled in the brows with a matte brown eye-shadow. I slightly brushed through the eyebrows filling in any spaces.
  • Next I applied mascara, I applied this using a disposable mascara wand each time i dipped the wand into the mascara as this avoids cross contamination.
  • Start by applying mascara downwards on the top lashes and then apply it upwards. This really lifts the lashes. Then apply mascara to the bottom lashes as well.

  • During this lesson we also learnt how to apply dark colors on the lips.
  • We had to make sure that the cupids bow we draw on was symmetrical and the whole look of the lips looked even and neat.
  • Firstly, I took an angled brush and put on very minimal product.
  • I got my model to slightly stretch her lips and I drew on the cupids bow and an outline of the lips.
  • This made it easier to fill the lips and I then went on and filled the lips with a dark red color.

Evaluation
Overall I found this lesson very helpful as I learnt many new techniques of applying makeup and about the different eye shapes. I was confident in apply the eye make up however, I was not confident identifying the eye shapes as I had to ask for help from my teacher. I need to learn about the various eye shapes in detail and need to practice identifying them on different people. I am not confident with filling brows as I never know how much product to put on and sometimes it just looks stuck on! In the lesson I was told to use less product and not touch the skin when applying it. This way the finishing look of he brow is more natural. I really found this helpful and was happy with the finishing look of the brows on my model. With the lips my hands were literally shivering while drawing the outline as I did not want to mess it up. However, I was pretty pleased with the outcome. I still think I need to practice more lip applications as I need to get the bottom line neater.
Looking at a makeup book, my model has green eyes but a darker and warmer shade of green. To make the color of her eyes pop, warm colors from peach to brown can be used.
I also used the book, Makeup The Ultimate Guide to reference my findings and understand about eye shapes better.
