Procedure
- This was a lesson on applying the base, concealing any blemishes or under eye circles.
- Once the consultation is carried out, cleanse, tone and moisturize the skin.
- Apply the base and conceal any areas that need it.
- After this using a shade that is twice darker than the foundation used, contour the sides of the cheeks, the bridges of the nose and under the neck if needed.
- To contour the cheeks lightly build the color up on the hollow part of the cheeks gradually building the color if needed. This can be felt with the fingers or you could ask the model to suck her cheeks in.
- To contour the bridges of the nose, draw two lines on either side on the nose.
- To make sure these are just not lines on the face, blend away using a kabuki brush or a round headed brush for the nose.
- To highlight the face use a lighter of concealer or foundation and apply this on the center of the nose, in the middle of the forehead, on the cupids bow, on the chin and on the cheek bones.
- The highlighter is used to bring out all the high points in the face.
- Then using a blusher brush, apply blusher on the cheeks bones using an outward stroking motion.
- This way you can build the color up gradually instead of having so much product in one go.
Evaluation
Looking at the before and after pictures, I feel I matched the color of the base well to match my partner's skin color. I didn't set the concealer properly last time, so this time I made sure I set it with a good amount of powder and I was amazed to see how it didn't crease at all. Coming to the contouring, I wasn't confident enough using cream products. This was because as I blended the darker shade it almost disappeared into the skin and I didn't want to apply too much that it stood out like a line. With the highlighting it was the same as the lighter color just sank into the face. I learnt a new technique of applying blusher to the cheeks and I prefer using this technique. I need to work on the application of cream contouring and gradually building up the color so that it looks right on the skin in the sense that not too much nor too little.
