Her hair crimped and styled up with a crown on her head. The dress is gold in color with a royal blue cape with over hanging sleeves. The gigantic collar ruff with pearls round her neck, every feature in this image has a historical reference to the Elizabethan era. However, looking at her pose in this image it related to the photograph that Rankin created in seven photographs that changed fashion. This was the 'Dovima with elephants' originally taken by Richard Avedon in 1955.
Although the hand formations are not entirely the same in both these images, they are sort of similar relating to the pose. The postures in both images have their hands raised, which symbolizes royalty and the feeling that its my world. In the top image it symbolizes, 'its my world and I rule it'. On the other hand the posture in this photograph symbolizes, 'I can take pictures with elephants simply because I can.' Its not like we get to take pictures with elephants everyday. In conclusion I feel that. the poses in both these images relates back to Elizabethan portraiture in the fact that she was the queen and could do what ever she likes.
Looking at the original image of Dovima with the elephants that is on the left side of the image, I feel like it has more of a wow factor to it than the one Rankin created. Even though Rankin has done a fantastic job, re-creating this image there still is a huge difference between the two even though they look very familiar. The original has more of a flow to it than the other, specially when looking at the model's posture. To me it looks as if Rankin's model is kind of forcing her pose as her body looks quite stiff than the model in the original image. However, this could because the model's that are used in he images are different.
