Looking at the story of Lettice Knollys, I decided that I want to have pale skin not white but pale skin that has a youthful glow to it. I want the base to be this way as she had the luxuries in life. I want to use dark colors like black, red or purple for the eyes as she was very secretive and sly. Using dark colors would emphasize this fact. For the lips I would also want to use a dark color, probably the same color as the lips or red. Red is a color that portrays love, jealousy, hatred and passion.
While carrying out my research I came across two images that really caught my eye.

This is the first image that really visually engaged me. The glow on her skin relates to the beauty of Lettice, as even the Queen was jealous of her. I really liked the glow in her skin and would like my base to look similar to this.
The model in this image has a dark brown and gold color over her lids. The gold is so light that it is overpowered by the brown. I like the use of dark color as it represents Lettice's dark side. I like the heavily contoured cheeks as this gives a lift and warmth to her face.
I feel that this reflects the fact that Lettice was proud of herself as everyone used to praise her beauty. The red maroon color on her lips also represents the darkness in her life. All these features also have a symbolic reference to the Elizabethan era.
Looking at the image above the glow look in the skin really inspired me as it related to my lady in waiting's back story that I created and also as Lettice was compared to the queen for her beauty.
I tried re-creating the look and the picture on the right hand side shows how it came out. I really like the glow that sits just on top of the cheek bone and really like the strong blush that gives a sunken in effect of the cheeks and makes the face appear thinner. I also tried to create the glow on the sides of the forehead and the nose as in the image above.
Looking at the image above I realised that the blush is much stronger and mine is subtle. For the glow I used a golden tinted highlighter, however I the glow in the image above seems to be much stronger than what I applied. I feel like the strong blush and highlighting/glow in the image above is what gives character to the picture and it really stood out for me.
Looking at the models eyes I noticed she has a dark color over the lids. I used a bronze colored eye shadow for this. Looking at her lips she has a dark color that looks like red or maroon but it has a very soft look to it. I used a maroon colored lipstick and blotted it out using tissue to get rid of harsh color and powdered the lips to give the lips a subtle look. My re-creation of this look didn't really match the image above as I could have the look more bold specially wit the blush and the highlights in the skin. Although it does have a little gold look to it.

This was the second image that really inspired me to create my design for my new Elizabethan. There are many symbolic references in this image that relate to the Elizabethan era. Talking about the design, I personally felt that this design was really different, unique and it stood out to me the most.
I like the dark purple blended in with black over the eyebrows. This style blocks out the eyebrows yet forming an amazing shape that gives the illusion of a high forehead. It also resembles the shape of a crown to me. I like the pattern that is drawn on top of this. It almost looks like a lace structure.
This gave me an the idea to incorporate lace into my design. I also like how the lace design has being stencilled on the neck. This gives an effect of a high collar. Looking at this design I really see the traits of Lettice coming through.
I like how the texture of the pattern over the eyes is thick. It almost also looks like an urban graffiti design. This goes in showing that I could use different textures of lace and the pattern to create different effects and looks.
