Aqua Colors
This white base was created using aqua based krayolin white paint. We noticed that aqua colors have a very drying effect to the skin. When applying them it left streaky marks. To get a solid white color we would have to apply layers on of the white color, making sure each one dries first.
The disadvantage of using an aqua based color, is that they are generally hard to blend. Also once it is dry depending on the quantity applied it may start to form little cracks.
However, the advantage of using water based colors is that they are easy to take off.
Supra ColorsSupra colors are grease based colors. We found that it was easy to apply the color to the skin, however we had to warm the product before using it.
Grease colors are easy to blend in with different colors mainly of the same medium.
Some disadvantages we noticed about the supra colors was that, the more you keep stroking the brush in one area it can lead to removing some product. Also as they are grease based they need to set using a translucent powder. This is because if the area is hot the colors will start to run down the face and also the eye area will crease really quickly.
Once we set the face with powder we decided to apply some blusher which was in the form of powders.
After applying the blusher we noticed that on side was pigmented than the other. I think this is the tricky bit where we have to apply less first and then gradually build up the color as we have a grease base. We could also make sure we have set the base with enough powder.
Illamasqua Skin Base
I was applying this medium to my model's face. I found it easy to apply like the grease based base. However it had a drying effect like the aqua colors once it was dry on the face.
Comparing it to the supra and aqua colors I think the illamasqua skin base had more white pigment as the color was more bold than the other two.
In this case we would just have to use less product to achieve the whole look where as with the supra and aqua colors we would have to use much more product.
Overall, working with illamasqua skin base would be good as its neither too oily or dying. For blending purposes I would use the supra colors as they blend well and will have to set them in place using powder.
