Practical-Face Charts

After learning about the color theory this was my first attempt at creating a face chart. I created this during my practical make-up lesson.
I used powders to create the shadings and highlights on the face. I used yellow, green an pink colored eye shadows on the eyes as they are all contrasting colors.
I wasn't sure of the make-up design I wanted to create, as I just created what came into my mind. For the lips I used the red lipstick color that we have in our kits. I then used black eye-shadow to shade the edges and the sides of the lips. I did this to give the lips a  three dimensional look.
I was happy with the overall look of the face chart as this was my first attempt. However  I could have blended the colors a little more to get a smooth soft finish instead of harsh lines. I wasn't quite sure if the colors were not blending in due to the paper or I was using a wrong technique.

Using the color theory I practiced creating three looks. These are:

  • Monochromatic
  • Analogous
  • Complementary

Monochromatic Look

Monochromatic colors are the same colors. However, these colors can be of different shades.
  • To highlight and shade the face chart I used a light colored foundation.
  • I then used all neutral earth colours for this look as all colors had to be the same. I used a light shade of brown in the inner corner of the eyes. I used a slightly darker color on the outer corner blending it into the crease of the eye.
  • I then drew on the top liner and lashes using gel eye liner.
  • I used a darker shade of brown eye-shadow on the lips and left the middle white just to give a little highlight.

Evaluation
As I used foundation to shade the face and it didn't blend in that well and left sharp lines. I suppose this is because it was on paper. I will use powders on the next face chart to see whether it will blend in. I used neutral colors for this look that is mainly browns. Using the browns gave me a very natural look. The whole look gives off a warm look.

Analogous Look
Analogous colors are close neighboring colors on the color wheel. They are known to be very peaceful colors to look at.
  • I chose to to work with the three shades of blue for this look.
  • I used a neutral skin colored powder to shade and highlight the face.
  • For the eyes I used a lighter shade of blue in the inner corners of the eyes.
  • I used a blue/green color for the outer part and blended it into the crease of the eyes.
  • I used gel eyeliner for the winged top liner and the lashes.
  • For the lips I used dark blue on the outer corners and a light blue in the middle. I then blended these together.

Evaluation
For the Analogous look i chose to work with blue as I found these shades very peaceful. The colors kind of remind me of when a peacock fans it feathers it looks so peaceful and bliss. As I used foundation to shade the face in the previous face chart I used powders to shade this one and I found it much easier to blend as it gave me a soft look at the end. I was also pleased with the shading of the lips as you can see the two different shades of blue and how they are blended together.

Complementary Look

Complementary colors are contrasting colors that are opposite each other on the color wheel.
  • I used a neutral skin colored powder to highlight and shade the face.
  • For the eyes, I used yellow eye shadow on the inner corners of the eyes. I used purple on the outer corners and blended it into the crease of the eyes.
  • I used gel eye liner to draw on the top liner and the lashes.
  • For the lips I used a maroon colored shadow on the lips and blended it with black on the outer corners,

Evaluation
I wasn't quite happy with this finished look. I feel like even though they are contrasting colours it makes the overall look dull. I think I should have used more bright colors for this look. A brighter maroon would look better on the lips too as it would brighten up the face.

After studying about the color wheel and the three color theories I tried creating this complementary look shown in the pictures above. I used the colors purple, orange and yellow to create this look. As seen in the pictures above I used purple and orange over the eyes. I used supra color for this and went over the top with eye shadows as this really made the colors pop.

To highlight the brow bone I used white supra color just over the purple. At this point I wasn't really sure about the design I was creating as I just went with the flow and did what brought the look together. On the cheeks, I used orange supra color as the blush. I used the purple to contour it and I used yellow supra color to highlight the cheek bones and I also took this color onto the temples of the forehead and blended it in with the orange.

I lined the eyes with liner and winged it out. On the bottom lash line I smudged out the liner. With having a lot going on with the colors I kept the lips subtle and went over them with a nude colored gloss. Looking at the outcome of the look I could have gone in more darker and bolder with the colors on the cheeks as on the eyes the colors really pop.I feel this would complete the look and it would have looked much better.
