Applying Foundation
- Foundation is known as the base.
- It should be the perfect match to the model's skin color.
- Test the color across the jaw line and slightly on the neck.
- When applying the base avoid touching the face with fingers, instead use piece of tissue or a puff.
- A satin primer is used for dry skin while, a matte primer is used for oily skin.
How to apply the Base
- After carrying out a skin consultation, cleanse tone and moisturize the face.
- Apply primer to the face.
- The primer makes the foundation last longer.
- It can also be mixed with the base once the color has been matched to the models skin.
- Start applying the base from the middle of the face going sideways, using a foundation brush.
- Always apply foundation on the ears, neck and into the hair line as this will show no color difference.
- Also make sure to go round the nose and also into the nose and ears.
- Next buff the base using a kabuki brush. This will blend it all in.
- Apply a concealer that is one to two shades lighter that the skin color of the model.
- Concealer can be used to cover any blemishes, imperfections and under eye dark circles.
- Apply the concealer using a small rounded tip brush and it can also be blended in using finger tips.
- Set the base using loose translucent powder.
- This will stop the base moving and will stop the concealer from creasing specially on the eye lids and under the eyes.
- Apply the powder using a powder puff and roll in onto the skin.
- Lightly brush away any excess powder.
Evaluation
This is my partners picture after I applied the base and set it with powder.
I joyed applying the foundation however, I found it a little challenging to match the foundation color to my model's skin. After a little struggle and mixing two colors I found her skin matching color.
I applied the concealer using a brush however I found it better to blend it in with my fingers as it gave a more natural finish yet covering any imperfections. For example my model had a lot of redness on and along her nose. As I tried blending the concealer in with the brush it would remove the product. When I patted it slightly using my fingers it stayed in place.
After I set the base with powder, I noticed that after a few minutes the eye area started to crease. I will make sure that next time I set the eye are properly. Also when brushing away the extra powder I slightly rubbed of the base on the left side which I will be more careful about next time.
