Conjunctivitis
Conjunctivitis is also known as pink eye and is vey contagious. If a model has it, ask her to seek medical advice as it could cause cross infections and it could be painful for the model.
Herpes Simplex(Cold Sores)
Herpes Simplex is the name of the virus and they are commonly known as cold sores. They are highly contagious and can cause cross infection. therefore should not be worked on.
Warts
Warts are contagious and can cause cross infection as they can be easily spread around. Therefore should not be worked on and always ask model to seek medical advice as we are not professionally trained to give medical advice.
Rosacea
This is mild Rosacea and is not contagious but if it is severe it could be flaky and painful for the client or model and therefore could be avoided to work on.

Skin Cleansing
Health and Safety- Make sure my partners/models clothing is covered using a gown.
- Do not double dip spatulas into the make-up palettes.
- Always wash hand before application and after.
- Always carry out a consultation before starting to make sure there are no contra-indications and my partner is not allergic to any products.
- Always ask partner/model if they are wearing contact lenses.
- Always provide partner/model with after care advice.

Cleansing
- There are 3 major steps for cleansing the skin.
- These are cleansing, toning and moisturizing.
- The first step is cleansing.
- Put small amounts of cleanser on the cotton wool pads.
- Start cleansing the model from the neck always working in upward motions as this does drag the skin downwards.
- Next work sideways but upwards on the chin, cheeks and forehead.
- When cleansing round the eyes this can be done using cotton pads or the ring finger in circular movements. Cotton buds are used to cleanse very close the eyes as this is the most delicate area on the face.
- The skin should always be cleansed before any make-up application as this will get rid of any dirt and any make-up that the model will previously have on.
- If applying make-up on men cleansing is as important as it is on women. However, instead of use cotton pads to cleanse the skin we should use sponges as the little fibers from the cotton wool pads will get stuck in their stubble.
Toning
- Toning is the second step of cleansing the face.
- This gets rid of any extra grime that could have been left after cleansing.
- It also closes the pores and prepares the face for moisturizing.
- Put a small amount of toner onto the cotton wool pads.
- Using the same cleansing movements tone the entire face but being careful around the eyes as it may sting.
Moisturizing
- Moisturizing the skin is the last but very important step in cleansing.
- It moisturizes the skin preparing the skin for the foundations.
- Depending on the partner/model's skin type, you could either use an oily based moisturizer or one for normal or dry skin.
- Put a pea sized amount of moisturizer onto your finger tips and rub onto hand to warm the product.
- Massage the moisturizer onto the face using upward effleurage movements starting from the neck working upwards to the forehead.
- In areas where the skin is more dry a little more moisturizer can be used.
Evaluation
During this lesson we had to cleanse our partners skin. As I have done facials before I knew the basic cleansing steps. I previously learned to cleanse the face using our hands, However I learned a new technique during this lesson and that was cleansing with cotton pads. I found this procedure faster as it avoids using a bowl of water and sponges as I had to change the water after very cleanse.
