The Rainbow Portrait
This portrait is known as the Rainbow Portrait. It was painted in the year 1600 by Isaac Oliver.
The gown that she is wearing in this portrait is embroidered with English flowers.
English flowers in the 16th century were really expensive and this portrays her very goddess like. Her cloak is decorated with eyes and ears. This implies that she hear's and see's everything that going on around her and in her country. In her right hand she hold a rainbow which is a symbol of peace and prosperity.
The rainbow also symbolizes peace with the Latin motto,"Non Sine Sole Iris." This means that there is no rainbow without the sun. With all the conflict between her, the church and other countries this symbol states that no matter what she shall have peace within her country.
On her left arm there is a serpent sewed on the left arm of the cloak . This emblem of the serpent symbolizes wisdom. There is a heart shaped ruby in the mouth of the serpent which implements that the queen does everything from her heart. The pearls hanging from her hair symbolize her purity and that she is the virgin Queen.

This portrait is known as the Armada portrait. It was painted in the year 1558 by George Gower. In this portrait the crown symbolizes royalty, that she is the Queen of all.
The picture in the upper right hand corner shows the defeat of the Spanish Armada. By showing this particular image in the portrait, Elizabeth really portrays her power, strength and authorities.
The image on the left hand upper corner shows the English ships, which are in perfect condition. This shows the victory of England over Spain. Her gown is embroidered with pearls all over.

She has her left hand on the globe of the world, particularly on the map of South America the source of Spain's gold. This portrays that after winning the battle over Spain, she now owns a part of the gold and shows her success. This also expresses her wealth and status. Elizabeth loved her hands and she loved to flaunt them in every portrait. This showed of sign of love and peace.

The Ermine Portrait
This is known as the Ermine Portrait. It was painted in the year 1585 by Nicholas Hilliard. This portrait is known as the Ermine portrait because it has an ermine on the queen's left arm.
The ermine in this portrait symbolizes the Queen's purity and royalty as it has a gold crown on its head. Black and white were the queen's favorite colors. In this image the black color symbolizes gravity, in the sense that she is serious in what the image is portraying.
Her luxurious jeweled black gown was made from ermines, this particular animal was used to make quilt coats. As the animal is small in size, a lot of the were needed to make the gown.
This symbolizes the power and wealth of the queen as they were quite expensive. She is also wearing the three brothers jewel which are three diamonds in a triangular set. This jewel depicts her wealth as it was one of the most expensive jewels of the time. The sword that is laying next to her arm symbolizes that she is always ready to fight for her country and her people. On the other hand she holds an olive branch in her right hand which symbolizes peace.
